What can you expect before the procedure?
To ensure that the area affected by the surgery heals as quickly as possible, there are several things we recommend.
- We advise patients to stop smoking 4 weeks before the procedure. This encourages faster and more successful healing.
- If you are taking anticoagulant medication, the plastic surgeon will discuss this with you and advise you on when to stop and resume the medication.
- You should avoid using painkillers that contain aspirin from one week before to one week after the procedure. These drugs also have a blood-thinning effect. During this period you can use permitted painkillers such as paracetamol and panadol.
- You should also avoid consuming alcoholic beverages from 4 days before to 4 days after the procedure.
If you are not sure if a medicine contains aspirin, check with your general practitioner or pharmacist or ask our plastic surgeon.
During the initial consultation you will be given a form that lists the various recommendations.
