Who is a suitable candidate for lower eyelid surgery?
Not everyone is a suitable candidate for lower eyelid surgery. Accurate diagnosis is one of the most important parts of a plastic surgeon’s job. Our mission statement defines the provision of objective and comprehensive information as a core task. During the initial consultation the plastic surgeon will assess your concerns and expectations, make a precise diagnosis and explain what you can realistically expect.
Lower eyelid surgery is a procedure that demands considerable experience. It is a delicate operation that requires great technical skill. Correct diagnosis is crucial.
Many people come for a consultation because they are concerned about bags under their eyes. Dark circles under the eyes, puffiness and sagging skin are all regarded as ‘bags’. There are also cases in which people occasionally have bags under their eyes. If bags under your eyes sometimes disappear, they are probably caused by a buildup of fluid. If there is no sign of sagging skin, or if you only have dark circles under your eyes, a surgical procedure is unlikely to be the solution. If you are not sure, the plastic surgeon can explain this to you during the consultation. There may be an alternative treatment that is suitable for you.
During the initial consultation one of our team of plastic surgeons, Rose Rhemrev-Pieters, Duco van den Broecke or Martine van Huizum, will determine if you are a suitable candidate for lower eyelid surgery. He or she will inquire about your health, medical history and medicine use. The plastic surgeon will also ask what you want to achieve and what you expect. He or she can then tell you if the procedure is likely to meet your expectations.
If you decide to proceed with treatment, all of the relevant information is specified in the treatment contract.
The initial consultation is always conducted by the plastic surgeon who will perform your treatment.
You can book a consultation appointment online or by phone.
