Prof. dr. Corstiaan Breugem The reshaping and repositioning of tissue is my passion within plastic surgery. I strive for excellent care in everything I do, with focus and personal attention at the center. My expertise lies in the face, and I am convinced that a procedure is only successful if my patient is satisfied in the long term – with a smile. Eyelid surgery is a specialty in its own right. The success of a procedure does not depend solely on the degree of indication, but also on a good understanding of your wishes. Together with an experienced team, we strive for a natural and harmonious result that suits your face and personality. After completing my medical studies in South Africa, I finished my plastic surgery training at Amsterdam UMC. To further refine my skills, I pursued a fellowship in Canada in 2005–2006, focusing on the treatment of congenital facial deformities, such as cleft lip and palate, as well as ear reconstruction in children. From 2007 to 2020, I worked as a plastic surgeon at UMC Utrecht and the Meander Medical Centre. Since 2020, I have served as a Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Amsterdam, and since 2024, I have also been a Professor at the University of Cape Town. A Social Mission In addition to my work in the Netherlands, I am dedicated to advancing plastic surgery in low-income countries. As Chairman of Interplast Holland, I strive to improve education and healthcare in these regions. Every year, I perform surgeries abroad and share my knowledge with local surgeons. Research and Education I am actively involved in developing national guidelines to enhance the quality of care and mentor several PhD candidates and researchers. I also lecture at the University of Amsterdam and regularly publish in scientific journals. My publications can be found on PubMed. Personal In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and being in nature. Running in the forest helps me recharge and gain new energy. With over 20 years of experience as a plastic surgeon, I view every procedure as a unique and rewarding challenge.
