Welcome to VandenBroecke Kliniek. On this page, I’d like to tell you a bit about myself.
From 1991 to 1998 I studied medicine at VU University Amsterdam. Then from 1998 I specialised as a plastic surgeon at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam. I completed my studies at the end of June 2004.
After 18 months on the faculty at the Erasmus University Medical Center, in mid-2007 I returned to Amsterdam to work at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AVL) cancer hospital.
The plastic surgeons at AVL perform reconstructive procedures after malignant tumour resection and preventive reconstructive surgery (for patients with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations for example). This may be done as part of a primary procedure (after the patient has been operated on by the surgical oncologist) or as a secondary procedure (after the patient has recovered from oncology treatment). In performing these reconstructive operations we try to strike the ideal balance between enabling a rapid recovery and subsequent quality of life.

Besides my work at AVL, I performed uninsured healthcare between 2007 and 2014, including eyelid surgery, in a private clinic in Amsterdam. We also operated in the former Prinsengracht Hospital, under the name Van Leeuwenhoek Clinic. This clinic was closed last year. It was a magnificent old building on the Prinsengracht canal. Everyone at the hospital felt as if they were back in the 1950s. There was something romantic about it and it worked. But because the building was so old it also had its limitations. Sadly, in 2014 this led to the decision to redevelop the site as a commercial complex.
It is a pleasure to work at VandenBroecke Kliniek. We are a small team of plastic surgeons who are passionate about what we do and we set very high standards. It is important to me to be completely independent because this enables me to provide the best care.
