Permanent makeup removal

Information and rates

PMU stands for “Permanent Makeup.” This refers to a form of cosmetic tattooing where pigments are tattooed into the skin to create a lasting makeup effect. It is often used to define eyebrows or apply permanent eyeliner.

Sometimes people regret their choice of permanent makeup or feel it no longer suits them. In such cases, PMU can be removed through laser treatments.

Procedure

We use the Q-Switched laser to target the pigments in the ink present in the skin. The laser energy breaks the pigment into microscopic particles, which are then naturally eliminated by the body via the lymphatic system. The treatment is often perceived as painful. To protect the eyes during the laser procedure, protective glasses or eyeshields are used.

Number of treatments

On average, 4 to 8 treatments are needed. Treatments can be performed every 6 to 8 weeks. During the treatment period, the PMU will gradually fade. The estimated number of treatments and the final results can vary from person to person, depending on factors such as depth, color, and type of ink used.

Treatment guidelines

  • The treatment cannot be performed on tanned skin (the skin must not have been exposed to UV radiation for at least 4 weeks).
  • Sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30/50 must be applied regularly when exposed to daylight. This is required from 4 weeks before to 4 weeks after the treatment.
  • The PMU must be at least 6 months old.
  • If you are taking blood thinners, this must be discussed beforehand.
  • No cold sores should be present on the day of treatment.

Before and after

Recovery and aftercare

Recovery

After the treatment, the skin may feel burning, red, and swollen. You may cool the area immediately after the procedure using an ice pack. A cooling gel is then applied to soothe the skin and prevent burns. The treated area is covered with a bandage, which can be removed the following day. Scabs and/or blisters may develop but will disappear naturally within 1–2 weeks.

Aftercare

  • If a bandage has been applied, you may remove it the next day.
  • Treat the area with a cooling gel (use a tube for hygiene purposes).
  • Do not use Vaseline.
  • Keep the treated area dry for 24 hours after the treatment.
  • Ensure the skin is completely healed before swimming, engaging in intensive exercise, or using a sauna.
  • The skin may feel tender and itchy for a few days.
  • If blisters or scabs form, avoid picking at them.

Contact us if the skin remains extremely swollen, red, itchy, or burning after 3 days.
